What is Genius Microneedling RF?
Introducing Genius Microneedling with Intelligent RF at Dermatology Center of Loudoun. As you age, the effects of your genetics, UV rays, inflammation, and the environment accumulate to break down your skin and its supportive elements — leading to wrinkles, textural irregularities, skin laxity, and other issues The goal of many of our therapies is to stimulate and revive your skin’s waning ability to rebuild itself. Genius is our latest, most effective, and most comfortable tool for accomplishing this rejuvenation!
Genius represents the next generation of microneedling technology, featuring intelligent RF energy, which senses the quality of the treated skin for effective energy delivery. Gone are the days of “vampire” needle devices leaving a bloody immediate outcome and questionable long-term outcome. Genius uses an array of superfine, gold-plated needles whose application and energy is customized in real-time to each patient’s skin and skin issues, such as wrinkles, laxity, acne and other scars, large pores and other textural issues.

How microneedling works
RF energy is released only at the lower pole of the needles, thus controlled thermal injury is limited only to the lower dermal layer of skin, where the stimulation of collagen, elastin, and other structural components occurs. Because this process occurs entirely underneath the skin, Genius is safe on even darker skin, and in the summer months. Genius also allows us to immediately apply topical products like peptides, growth factors, PRP, and other nutrients, to amplify the process of skin remodeling.
Most importantly, based on Genius’ characteristics above, treatments are more comfortable than ablative laser treatments of the past and cause no significant downtime.
Does Microneedling Hurt?
You will feel some slight pinches or pressure and heat. Numbing cream is applied 30-45 minutes before the treatment to maximize comfort; if necessary additional superficial injections of numbing medicine may be added to make the procedure completely pain free.
How Long is Microneedling treatment?
Depending on the area of concern, a treatment can take as little as 15 minutes and up to 45 minutes. The skin is initially pink with some local swelling which typically subsides after 24-36 hours. Patients report not having any significant downtime.
How long before I see Microneedling results?
Results may vary, but you should see some changes soon after the procedure. As your body rebuilds collagen and elastin to greater degrees, gradual improvements occur over the next 6 months.
How many treatments will I need?
The formal treatment protocol calls for 2-4 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. The goal of treatment is to repeatedly stimulate dermal remodeling in the form of collagen and elastin production. This is a natural process that essentially would not happen to this degree without these types of treatments.
